All about the chadar trek

Trek to Chadar:

A hike to the frozen Zanskar River: The ability of the well-known tributary of the Indus River to transform into a “Chadar,” or frozen river, in the winter is well-known. The Chadar Trek, which was once only used by Zanskaris to get to Leh, has become a bit of a challenge for experienced trekkers and thrill seekers due to its complicated route and wildly unpredictable weather. The Chadar Trek is unlike any other; the location is an adventure and story that will stay with you for the rest of your life. The Zanskar River freezes in the bitter winters of Ladakh, which you have the opportunity to conquer. This journey of 62 kilometers through the snow at an elevation of 11,483 feet or more is full of twists and turns. Come on over and let us show you how to trek Chadar.

introduction

The Chadar trek, also known as the frozen Zanskar Gorge, is a winter trek in the Zanskar region of J&K. While the trek is beautiful, it is only recommended for adventure seekers, and unfit and lethargic trekkers should not continue. The trek distance is approximately 6 5 km, and the temperature drops to -30 degrees Celsius, which raises the difficulty level slightly.

In this subzero temperature, the Zanskar river transforms into a white sheet of ice, which is why the name Chadar actually means “a sheet.” From mid-January to mid-February is the best time to see this wonder because this is the time of year when the temperature drops to below zero, turning the gushing Zanskar into a Chadar, and the high cliffs along the river keep out the sun so it stays that way for the season.

Zanskar is an Indus river tributary that flows north. The Zanskar Gorge is formed when the Lungak River and the Doda River merge to form the principal Zanskar River. This river eventually merges with the Indus river at a location known as Nimmu.

Day 1:

Acclimatization The first day of the Chadar Trek begins with a flight to Ladakh and a touch down at Leh, 11,500 feet above sea level. The purpose of the first day of the trek is acclimatization.

Day 2:

The drive from Leh to Chilling is 64 kilometers, and the trek to Tilad Sumdo is 5 kilometers. The drive gives you a good idea of the beauty that is to come because it takes you past some of the most beautiful places in Leh-Ladakh, like Magnetic Hill, the holy Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, and the point where Zanskar and Indus meet: the Point of Nimmu Your hike to Tilad Sumdo spans five kilometers from Chilling. By the frozen Zanskar River, the day’s short but exciting trek comes to an end.

Day 3:

The 12 km trek from TiladSumdo to Gyaplo is the main draw of Day 3. The long walk through the frozen Zanskar River is the main attraction. The day perfectly captures the excitement and emotion of the renowned Chadar Trek in India.

Day 4:

A 14-kilometer hike from Campground Gyaplo to Tibb Cave Many people go out on Day 4 of the Chadar Trek thinking that the famous, enigmatic, rust-colored Tibb Cave is the main attraction. However, the day’s hike has a lot of surprises and memorable views for the adventurers. On your way to Tibb Cave, you’ll be greeted by a slew of beautiful frozen waterfalls that will leave you spellbound and in awe. In addition, there is a waterfall that flows clearly even when the temperature is below zero, making it a perfect anomaly. The fact that the source and origin of these waterfalls remain elusive to this day adds to their mystique. Explore the cave and let your imagination run wild, but don’t forget to get some rest because the next day’s trek is going to be the most difficult one yet.

Day 5: a twelve-kilometer hike from Tibb Cave to Naerak Camp.

You will pass by the enormous Naerak frozen waterfall, one of nature’s greatest creations, on the way there! Because of its profound beauty, the Naerak waterfall attracts a large number of tourists each year to witness its hypnotic beauty. It wouldn’t even be an exaggeration to say that the frozen-in-time cascading waterfall has the ability to instantly transport you to mythical lands only found in fantasy novels.

Day 6: A 13-kilometer trek from Naerak camp to Tibb cave. Just because you’re on a return trip doesn’t mean it won’t be easy or boring. Chadar is the perfect antithesis of these words.  Frequently, you’ll wonder if you’re trying out a different course.

The trail will undoubtedly continue to astonish you at every turn. On your way back, you will also be greeted by jovial locals, silent monks, and jolly young children dressed in traditional woolen clothing, which always results in pleasant interactions.

Day 7:

14-kilometer hike to Gyaplo The day brings its own challenges as well as whimsical beauty.

Day 8:

The 8th Day of the Chadar Trek marks the end of your adventure journey, but your spirit remains high as you capture and memorize the beauty of the towering mountains, strange geometric rock faces, and frozen sheets of icy glass formations. From Tilad Sumdo, the drive to Leh is 64 kilometers.

As you board your return flight on Day 9, you say your goodbyes to Leh.
