As we mentioned in the introduction, drawing even a simple car can be quite difficult, and it gets even harder when it comes to something like a racing car! For this reason, we’ll take it easy and show you exactly what to do. When going through this guide, take it easy and follow the reference images carefully. For the first step in this guide on how to draw a racing car, we’ll start with the car’s chassis. It will make your job easier if you have a ruler handy for this step!

The frame is also one of the trickiest parts of this guide, so it’s a good idea to use a pencil for now and run through it with a pen when it looks the way you want. Again, following the reference image we provided will be incredibly helpful for this step! If you’re having trouble, print out this first page of the guide and use it to trace your image. There’s no guilt in making it slightly more leisurely!

Step 2:

We will continue to add to your race car drawing in this next step. There are some intricate details in this step, so as with all parts of this guide, it is recommended that you look closely at the reference image. First, you can draw a rectangular shape for the racing car’s windshield, as shown in the reference image. Then you can use a more rounded rectangular shape in the front of the car for the grill. Finally, add straight lines using your ruler along the car’s base for more detail. Once you’re happy with how it looks, move on to step 3!

Step 3:

In this part of our guide on how to draw a racing car, we’ll add a lot more detail, so be sure to take it easy when drawing! The main elements you will add in this step are the side windows and the front headlights. Then there will be lots of angular detailing around the headlights and next to the race car doors. Finally, you can add a wing that extends into the air on the back of the race car design.

Step 4:

There have been many intricate designs in drawing your race car, so the next steps are a little easier! First, use circular and oval shapes for the wheels of your racing car. Then draw slightly smaller circles inside to show where the rubber ends and the tires start. We’ll add more details on the wheels a bit later. Finally, draw a few lines on the grid to give it more detail and definition.

Step 5:

Before you spice up your car with some great colors, you can add the final details in this step of our how-to draw a race car guide. You can use a few lines on the inside of the wheels, as seen in the reference image, to give the rims more detail. These will be drawn with small circles and slightly curved lines leading up to them. Finally, you can add straight lines to the hood of the racing car to complete our details. Before moving on to the final step, maybe I’ll add a few details! Some ideas would be a race track background or maybe even a driver standing next to the car! How are you going to finish this drawing of a racing car?

Step 6:

There have been some tricky drawings in this guide on drawing a race car, so now you can relax with some fun colors for the final step! We’ve used a red color scheme for our sample image, but that’s just one of many ways for your design! For this step, you need to color your racing car with one of your favorite colors. I would suggest using colored pens or markers to bring out the colors, but there are many.
